3 Reasons Why Hiring Local Movers Is Better Than DIY Relocation

When moving to a new apartment, house, or office, you have two main options for relocation. The first is enlisting the help of friends and relatives to help you pack up and move your belongings to the new residence or premises. The second option involves hiring a local moving company for the job.

In most cases, most people would prefer to enlist the help of friends and relatives because it is the cheapest option. However, the cheapest option doesn't always turn out to be the best option.

Hence, if you plan to relocate any time soon, here are three reasons why hiring a professional moving company is better than doing it yourself.

1. Guaranteed Reliability

If you plan to relocate with the aid of friends and relatives, it is essential to give them prior notice to allocate time in their schedules to help you out. However, relying on friends and relatives can often become tricky because if an emergency arises, they may not be available.

They might be too busy with work or personal matters to make time to help you move thus there is no guarantee they will be available.

However, local moving companies are business entities that provide mover services on a contractual basis. Thus, as soon as you sign a contract with a local moving company, they must honor the contractual agreement because it is legally binding.

2. Saving Time

If you need to relocate, time is a critical factor you need to consider. For instance, your landlord may have instructed you to move out by tomorrow because they expect a new tenant to move into your old office or apartment the following day.

In such a scenario, organizing assistance from your friends and relatives may not be feasible within such a short timeframe. Unlike friends and relatives, professional moving companies are quite flexible in scheduling their work. As a result, organizing a prompt relocation is much easier with a local moving company is than by yourself.

Therefore, if you are rushing against the clock to relocate, hiring a local moving company is the best option.

3. Insurance Against Damages or Losses

Despite enlisting the help of friends and relatives to relocate being the cheaper option, it can often turn out to be more expensive than hiring a local moving company. Remember, though your loved ones are willing to help you pack and relocate your belongings, chances are they are not trained on how to handle delicate items that may be valuable.

For instance, art pieces, decorative vases, and sculptures are very fragile. Hence, they require special care while packing to ensure they don't break or get damaged during transits. If you fail to pack such items appropriately, they may get damaged in transit resulting in losses. And unfortunately, you may not have insured the items for transport, hence there will be no compensation for the value lost.

Local movers must have insurance cover against damage or loss of their client's belongings. Should any of your valuable items get misplaced, damaged, or lost in the hands of the movers, the local moving company is obliged to compensate you for the loss in value.
